The 5 Most Scenic Roads To Drive Near Telford | Spares Hut

Shropshire is often slept upon when it comes to scenic drives especially Telford. However, after driving through countless times its hard to ignore the sights and nature of Shropshire's pictures roads.

That being said, I've decided to spread the word and reveal a few of my 5 most scenic roads to drive around Telford.

1. Bridgnorth Roads

Bridgnorth is a small town in Shropshire, England. It has a population of about 10,000 people and it's located on the River Severn. Bridgnorth is known for its castle - which dates back to medieval times - as well as its old market square which has been largely restored over the past 20 years or so.

Apart from the history of these fantastic locations, the roads do not disappoint either. With stunning countryside, glistening rivers and beautiful architecture it definitely deserves a place on this list.

2. Towards Ludlow And Beyond!

Ludlow is a town in the county of Shropshire, England. It is close to the Welsh border and has its own railway station. Ludlow is well known for its beautiful scenery and historical buildings.

The town centre has a variety of shops, restaurants and pubs which are worth exploring. There are also many places to visit in the surrounding area including The Wye Valley and The National Trust’s Clun Castle. Located close to Bridgnorth, there's no surprise its on this list with the roads having all of Bridgnorth's attributes with even MORE countryside and valleys.

3. Roads Of The Wrekin

The Wrekin is the second highest hill in Shropshire. It is located on the border between England and Wales, just south of Telford. The Wrekin has a height of 636 metres (2,087 ft) and is also known as "The Hill that Rides" because it appears to be riding over the surrounding countryside.

In Welsh legend, the giant Llwydcoed Mawr was slain here by Gwenddoleu ap Ceidio and his men after he had terrorised much of Wales. The hill is much visited and extremely accessible, which is why it is surrounded by scenic roads of the whole area. As much as it is to climb it i recommend a drive around this area!

4. The Shropshire Hills

The Shropshire Hills are a part of the larger Shropshire hills range in the northwest of England, running from north to south. The hills are a mix of moorland and rugged woodland.

The hills extend from just east of Ludlow, near the Wales-England border, to just south of Church Stretton. They form a ridge that runs roughly north-south for about 25 miles, with an average height above sea level between 600 and 700 metres (2,000 and 2,300 ft).

The hills are home to many small villages, farms and hamlets. There is a large population of sheep, cattle and ponies as well as some wild deer. The area is popular with tourists and walkers alike. Driving on these roads will give you a true sense of freedom, as you take in the beautiful scenery.

5. Down The B4176

From Dudley, the B4176 travels west and northwest across rural Staffordshire and serves as a vital link to Telford in Shropshire. The route arrives at a roundabout on the A454 at Rudge Heath after passing through Upper Aston and avoiding Upper Ludstone. This was the B4176's original western terminus, but due to Telford's expansion, the road was further extended.

As a result, it travels through Ackleton, over the River Worfe on a bridge, then traverses the Monarch's Way before coming to an intersection with the A442 and B4373. Only one mile separates you from the Telford urban area's edge.

Being the road I've taken countless times to get into Telford i might be a bit biased. The road however, taking you down long straight roads while going through vast country side definitely doesn't disappoint. So, if your heading back towards Wolverhampton and are tired of the motorway, this is the perfect scenic route for you to take.
